Be relevant.
You may have a lot that you want to say. (And even a 73 slide Powerpoint presentation to “help” you say it.)
But, unless what you want to say connects with what your listeners are interested in – your communication will be irrelevant and have as much impact as a wet noodle (i.e. none).
Robert Greenleaf, who wrote the profound (and blessedly short) The Servant As Leader, put it this way:
Many attempts to communicate are nullified by saying too much.
Too much of what you want to say and not enough of what they’re interested in.
Questions for Reflection & Action:
- Who do you want to influence?
- What are they really, really interested in?
- How is what you want to say relevant to #2?
