How to start a powerful conversation

Powerful conversations release and focus energy and creativity.

Powerful conversations are lively that had been trapped because – you didn’t want to hear and they didn’t want to tell. So, you collude.

You artfully design the agenda to side step the real issue.

To smooth over the pointed feedback. To slide past the high stake decision. Lots of data points are presented – but that thing that needs to be explored remains buried.

What’s something you don’t want to hear?

  • About your project?
  • Your product?
  • Your service?
  • Your performance?
  • Your relationship?

Who don’t you want to hear it from?

Be specific. How many times have you spoken with them in the past three months?

They don’t want to tell you, anyway.

Because it’s safer to let it slide and act like there’s nothing to talk about.

People will go to great lengths and spend huge amounts of time and money to avoid the powerful conversation.

And yet, it’s something we really long for – honest, straight forward, non-blaming conversations that will liberate the intelligence, energy, and creativity that’s trapped inside us.

So, you can both proceed as if there’s nothing to talk about.

Or you can turn towards the place where what-you-don’t-want-to-hear and what-they-don’t-want-to-tell-you overlap and begin a powerful conversation.

    Eric:

I have a bottle of red wine waiting to begin a powerful conversation and I am willing to turn towards the place where what-I-don’t-want-to-hear, what-you-don’t-want-to-tell-me, what-you-don’t-want-to-hear and what-I-don’t-want-to-tell-you overlap.

That might take us to the second bottle while we wait for our turns to listen….and to keep our mouths shut….

    Merry Christmas

Quite an offer. Won’t make it this holiday – but keep the glass clean for the future!!
